Economic Development annual report

The City of Lawrence, Douglas County and the Chamber of Commerce produced a 2011 Economic Development Report which provides an overview of significant economic development projects in the county over the past year.  The report is available online and will be available through the city, county, chamber and their partners. 

 

Improvements made at Centennial Park Disc Golf Course

Improvements have been made at the Disc Golf Course at Centennial Park to improve the overall conditions of the course.  A layer of compacted ag-lime has been added at each hole to hold up to the foot traffic close to the baskets. In the past, the area has become very muddy after it has rained. Please see attached report for photos.

 

Bring a Friend to Gymnastics Week successful

During the second week of February, the Parks and Recreation Department’s gymnastics program held Bring a Friend to Class week. The participants were encouraged to bring a friend during their regularly scheduled class to join in the fun and learn more about LPRD’s program. Staff was doubled to assist with the ratio of students to instructor ratio and to increase safety. A total of 102 friends participated throughout the week. Please see attached report and photo.

 

2011 Weatherization Grant Program

The 2011 Weatherization Grant Program, administered by the Community Development Division, is now complete. 30 households received some or all of the benefits available this year: 23 homes had entry doors weather-stripped, 27 homes had their attic insulation increased to an R-38, 19 homes had new storm windows installed for $18,421.34, and 30 homes received energy saving compact florescent light bulbs. The total cost of this year’s program was $33,654.44. Please see the attached memo for more details.
