RE:

CDGB Weatherization 2011

The 2011 Weatherization Grant Program is now complete.  30 households received some or all of the benefits available this year.

23 homes had entry doors weather-stripped for $3,438.18.

27 homes had their attic insulation increased to an R-38 for $11,573.52.

19 homes had new storm windows installed for $18,421.34.

30 homes received energy saving compact florescent light bulbs for $221.40.

The total cost of this year’s program was $33,654.44

Homeowners received grants as small as $157.45 to as much as $2362.77 based on needed improvements. The hope is that it will make their homes more comfortable and save them many times that amount in energy cost savings over the coming years.  Additionally, each homeowner received six compact fluorescent light bulbs thanks in part to the generosity of Westlake Hardware on 6th Street and store manager, Scott Schmille, who gave the City a very reasonable price on the bulbs.

The process began with the acceptance of applications during the month of August.  Income eligibility was determined and inspection of each eligible home completed in September.  Request for Bids publication, contractor walks of each property, and bidding occurred in October. Work began in mid-November with the final storm windows installed at the end of January.  The successful contractors were Airtight, Inc. and JetAlum, LLC.  The process went smoothly with only a few issues to be worked out by staff with the homeowners and the contractors.
