RE:	Mural Request from Gotfred Beardshear RE 901 Delaware St

Project Background

A sign permit application for this project was submitted to the Planning and Development Services Department in July 2015.  The project request relates to a mural to be installed on the northeast, northwest, and southeast walls of the building on the northeast corner of the property.  The applicant states on the application that the artwork is intended to represent a mid-20^th century service station and its interface with a neighborhood community.

The City regulates murals as part of the sign regulations.  The process calls for a review by the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission, in accordance with criteria set forth by the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission, and then approval by the City Commission.

Project Status

The Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission reviewed the proposed mural at its August 2015 meeting.  The Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission voted unanimously to recommend that the City Commission approve the sign permit and mural as requested.

Action Requested

The Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission recommends that the City Commission approve the mural and sign permit for 901 Delaware St in accordance with the application.
