RE:	Signs of Community Interest Request, Lawrence Restaurant Week

Background

Downtown Lawrence Inc. has requested permission to display four (4) banners at various locations throughout the City to promote Lawrence Restaurant Week, which runs from September 14 through September 20, 2015.  Signs would be displayed from September 1 through September 20, 2015.  The proposed banners are 15 square feet in area (three feet by five feet) and are proposed to be placed at the following locations:

• southwest corner of 6^th and Kentucky Streets in Watson Park;
• southwest corner of 19^th and Haskell Streets in Chief Jim McSwain Park;
• northwest corner of 23^rd and Massachusetts Streets; and
• 1900 Wakarusa Drive

Parks and Recreation Department staff has approved of the sign locations on park properties pending approval of the Signs of Community Interest request by the City Commission.  The owner of the property at 1900 Wakarusa has also given permission for a sign to be placed on that property.  Approval of this request would also include permission to place a sign on City owned property at the northwest corner of 23^rd and Massachusetts Streets.

Action

Approve as “Signs of Community Interest” a request from the Downtown Lawrence Inc. to place signs at various requested locations from September 1 through September 20, 2015.
