Background

At the April 6, 2015 Traffic Safety Commission meeting, the Commission heard a request to establish NO PARKING along one side of 24^th Place, 25^th Place and Jacob Avenue, west of Inverness Drive. Each of these streets is classified as a “local” street in a residential area and is paved approximately 26 feet wide. Parking is currently prohibited along both sides of each of these streets. No Parking was previously established along the south side of Gretchen Court in this neighborhood (see map and meeting materials).

Traffic Safety Commission Action

At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, four (4) members of the public addressed the Commission, generally in support of the request; one of the speakers suggested that residents be required to park in their driveways. It was indicated that with vehicles parked on both sides of the street, it is difficult for large vehicles to get through and they block the view of children. The Commission was concerned about access to the area by large vehicles, but, wanted to eliminate as few parking spaces as possible. The Commission, on a unanimous vote of 6-0, recommended establishing NO PARKING along the north side of 24^th Place, along the south side of 25^th Place, and along the west side of Jacob Avenue.

Action Request

It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission and establish NO PARKING along the north side of 24^th Place, along the south side of 25^th Place, and along the west side of Jacob Avenue and adopt on first reading, Ordinance No. 9117, establishing No Parking along the north side of 24^th Place, the south side of 25^th Place and the west side of Jacob Avenue, west of Inverness Drive.
