Review of 2015 International Code Council Model Building Codes

Planning and Development Services Department (PDS) and Fire and Medical Department staff has begun work with advisory boards on review of the 2015 International Code Council (ICC) model building codes for possible adoption by the City.  See attached report for more information.

 

2014 Building Permit Trends Report

Attached is the 2014 Building Permit Trends Report.  This annual report provides data regarding Lawrence building permits issued during 2014, as well as trends for Lawrence building permits compared to prior years.  The report also compares Lawrence building permit information to ten regional Kansas jurisdictions and to seven (7) regional peer university cities.  Comparison of Lawrence building permit activity to peer university cities is new to the report this year. 

 

Public Meeting regarding Bob Billings Parkway Improvements

On Wednesday, April 15, 2015, the City held a public meeting for residents along the Bob Billings Parkway Corridor.  See attached report for more information.

 

Lawrence Municipal Airport Runway

The Lawrence Municipal Airport is finishing up a construction project that updated and replaced old runway/taxiway signage for RWY’ 15/33 and 1/19, installed three (3) new LED wind cones,  and replaced the lighting with LED’s. The project total was approximately $250,000. The FAA provided ninety percent (90%) of the costs and the City match was ten percent (10%).  See attached photos.

 

City’s Earth Day Celebration draws a large crowd

On Saturday, April 11, 2015, the City’s Solid Waste Division hosted the 15th Annual Earth Day Celebration at South Park. Events included a Parade for the Earth hosted by KU Environs, a Water Festival organized by the City’s Stormwater Division, and South Park tree identification tours hosted by the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department. The Lawrence Transit System offered free rides all day, providing the experience and benefits of public transportation on all fixed routes. Over 2,000 citizens participated in the Earth Day activities. See attached event summary and photos.

 

Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza takes over South Park

The Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza took place the first weekend of April. 625 kids participated in the hunt, and over 750 parents and family members came out to support the eager hunters.  See attached for more information and photos.
