Change Order – Interior of Sports Pavilion Lawrence |
Please include the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at the July 1st meeting:
The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department requests Commission approval to make changes to the interior of the Sports Pavilion Lawrence.
Project Description
Item #1 – 7,000 sq. foot Multi-Purpose Area
The original design of the building called for 7,000 square feet of space, to be minimally finished, to allow for future development of a wellness center by an outside entity. Staff recommends adopting the attached plan and beginning development of this space as a multi-purpose area. The space will be used for additional public programing and reservations.
Add new wall with door and windows
(Price includes deduct for originally planned walls in large openings) $16,606.70
Add lights, exit signs and electric outlets in new hall $8,000
Total $24,606.70
Note: This change will allow the facility to open and function around this space. Future work will be needed, after the facility opens, to finish this space for long-term public use.
Item #2 Concessions area security gate header
In the concessions area of the building, we plan to have two ways of delivering concession products. One is the traditional over-the-counter delivery system and one is a grab-and-go area where customers pick-up desired items and take them to the register. The original plan for the facility did not provide for a way to secure the grab-and-go area during times when the facility is closed. The proposed change would construct a header at the ceiling to allow for sliding security gates to be installed. The security gates will be purchased and installed by the City.
Header construction cost $2,475
Item #3 blocking under wood floor
We would like to add blocking under a small portion of the wood gym floor on the two west courts. This would allow us to install portable basketball goals, if there is ever a desire to put in a temporary 94’ long basketball court over the permanent courts.
Cost of blocking $800
Item#4 change light fixtures in the team check-in area (deduct item)
There was a need to change the planned lighting fixtures in the team check-in area to allow for added ceiling to floor clearance
Cost of light fixture change $(1,034)
Project Funding
Funding is available in the 2014 Sales Tax Reserve Fund.
Action Request
Authorize the City Manager to pay Gene Fritzel Construction Co., Inc., $26,847.70 to provide requested changes to the interior spaces of the Sports Pavilion Lawrence.
