Description

The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department requests Commission approval to purchase the cardio and weight equipment needed to open the new recreation center at Rock Chalk Park. This purchase will include the following items:

• 5 treadmills
• 3 recumbent bikes
• 3 upright bikes
• 5 elliptical trainers
• 1 upper body cycle
• 1 stair climber
• 12 strength / weight machines
• A variety of dumbbells and free weights with benches and weight racks

In researching equipment for our facility, we considered price and the level of durability in determining the most appropriate equipment for our needs. The equipment being recommended is the same equipment currently being used at the KU student recreation center and other public recreation centers in the Kansas City area.   

Funding

All equipment will be purchased from a cooperative purchasing agreement with the State of Kansas (Kansas Piggy-Back 37720) at a total purchase price of $120,428.29 (see attached). This price includes the delivery and installation of the equipment.

Funds are available for this purchase in the 2014 Recreation division budget.

Action Request

Authorize the purchase of cardio and weight equipment $120,428.29 from Advanced Exercise Equipment using state contract pricing.
