RE: |
Granada Movie Event on September 26, 2013
|
On 9/9/13 the Granada submitted a Temporary Use of Public Right-of-Way Permit application seeking to close the 1000 block of Massachusetts Street on Thursday 9/26/13 from 4:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. for a free movie showing on the street. A large inflatable screen would be placed near the south end of the block and the public would be able to sit on the street to the north of the screen. The block would be entirely closed to vehicular traffic and movie watchers would bring their own lawn chairs, blankets, etc. upon which to sit. There are approximately 72 parking stalls on the block in which parking would be prohibited during the event.
The event organizers have requested a Temporary Special Event permit from the city’s Planning Division to hold a portion of the event on the parking lot located just south of 1026 Massachusetts Street. All alcohol sales, possession and consumption would be confined to that private parking lot and no alcohol would be allowed on the public right-of-way.
Staff has mailed a letter to all of the properties on Massachusetts Street from 6th Street to North Park Street, notifying them that the Granada’s request to close the street will be considered by the City Commission on 9/17/13.
ACTION: Consider approving a Temporary Use of Public Right-of-Way Permit for the Granada, allowing the closure of the 1000 block of Massachusetts on Thursday, 9/26/13, from 4:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. for a free movie showing.
