2012 Water Production Summary |
Last year brought record temperatures and drought conditions to Lawrence and the region. These record temperatures coupled with drought conditions resulted in water production of near record amounts in 2012. The Clinton and Kaw Water Treatment Plants pumped 5.075 billion gallons of raw water from Clinton Lake and the Kansas River in 2012. This is the second highest raw water quantity after the 2002 amount of 5.107 billion gallons. In 2012, the raw water pumped was 25% more than the 3-year average. See the attached Water Production Report. The department produced 4.454 billion gallons of potable water in 2012, which was the third highest quantity. Only 2002 and 2003 produced more potable water at 4.641 billion gallons and 4.568 billion gallons respectively.
