Lawrence Transit map wins award in map contest

Micah Seybold, GIS Coordinator in the Information Technology Department, submitted the 2012-2013 Lawrence Transit System Map at the map gallery contest during the 2012 ESRI International User Conference, a technical GIS training & technology conference, in San Diego, CA in July (see attached photos). The map won second place in its category for Single Map Product-Large Format- In-House Copy out of 700+ maps submitted in 13 different categories. Submissions to the contest also have the potential to be published in the annual ESRI Map Book series. The map poster was created and compiled in a joint effort by Micah Seybold, Emily Lubliner, Marketing Coordinator in the Transit Division and Margretta de Vries from KU on Wheels.

 

Street maintenance program mid-year summary and status report

The city’s annual pavement maintenance program was reviewed and approved by City Commission on December 20, 2011. The current program has an approximate budget of $5.6 million. A mid-year status report and photos are attached. The program projects map has had some revisions which include the addition of some mill and overlay streets, other internal street maintenance pavement rehabilitation locations, speed humps on planned mill and overlay streets, concrete crosswalks, and the postponement of reconstruction and rehabilitation locations to next year’s (2013) program. The Revised 2012 Comprehensive Street Maintenance Program map is attached and is still subject to revisions until projects are completed and an as-built map can be updated.

 

Street Division mid-year summary and status report

The City of Lawrence Street Maintenance Division is responsible for 323 center line miles of streets (811 lane miles) with 40 employees. The work force is divided into 4 crews, asphalt, concrete, levee/sweeping/alleys and storm water.
