RE:	Update to Report about Possible Use of the Santa Fe Station as a Transit Hub

Commissioner Carter, Bob Nugent and Diane Stoddard were invited to attend a meeting of the East Lawrence Neighborhood Association on May 7, 2012 to discuss the report related to the possible use of the Santa Fe Station as a transit hub. 

During the meeting, a number of questions were fielded.  Eric Kirkendall, a resident in the neighborhood, made some statements and requested some additional information from the city regarding a prior examination of the depot as a transit hub conducted by the Public Transit Advisory Committee (PTAC), in 2002.  After the meeting, staff reviewed the files to find the reports related to these discussions.  It also appears that the City received a small grant from the Great American Stations Foundation to explore the feasibility of locating the transit hub at the Santa Fe Station.  Staff provided the following reports to Mr. Kirkendall.  These reports are provided below:

• Downtown Transfer Station Report from PTAC dated June 2001 – report summarizes various site alternatives being explored for transit transfer hub
• Update to the City Commission on the study of the Santa Fe Station as a possible transit hub dated August 2002 – this report provides a brief update to the City Commission on the process to evaluate the Santa Fe Station for the transit hub purpose and includes a building condition report from Bill Carswell and his architecture students on various items needing repair in the building
• Transfer Station Committee of PTAC report dated September 2002- this report briefly summarizes the rationale of the subcommittee of PTAC to not recommend the Santa Fe Station as a transit hub
• PTAC recommendation dated October 2002- this report is the official PTAC report that was received by the City Commission recommending that the Santa Fe Station not be considered for a transit hub.
