Report on 23rd Street Bridge utilities relocations
The Department of Utilities, Redford Construction Inc. and Professional Engineering Consultants have completed the relocation of water and sanitary sewer mains associated with KDOT’s replacement of the 23rd Street bridge (map attached).
 
The project involved the relocation of approximately 2,600 LF of 8” and 12” watermain; 2,000 LF of 8” to 36” sanitary sewer gravity and forcemains; construction of receiving and discharge structures; and CIPP lining of 960 LF of 10” and 24” sanitary sewers (project photos). As part of the project Department of Utilities staff directly procured $212,507.21 in watermain and sanitary sewer pipe and appurtenances and provided fulltime construction inspection.
 

Redford Construction Inc. was given notice to proceed on December 7, 2011. Contractual Substantial Completion was required by May 15, 2012 and Final Completion by June 15, 2012. The contract also included several milestones for partial completion of the work ahead of KDOT’s planned bridge work phasing. The project was Substantially Complete on May 14, 2012. On May 21, 2012 a Final Completion walk through was conducted and punchlist of minor correction items compiled. The contractor is in the process of completing these items.

 

The project was awarded to Redford Construction Inc. in the amount of $1,216,000.00. A single change order totaled $27,599.91, for a final construction contract cost of $1,243,599.91. Total project expenditures, including construction, easement acquisition, design and construction phase engineering services, and Department procured material costs totaled $1,637,826.12.

 

2012 Street maintenance program status update

The City’s annual pavement maintenance program was reviewed and approved by the City Commission on December 20, 2011. Below is a report on the status of the various program projects, and a current construction map can be viewed at http://lawks.us/construction-map.

May building permits report

The Building Safety Division issued 211 building permits in May, with total construction for the month valued at $7,838,118. Total permit fees assessed for the month were $61,180. Staff issued ten permits for new residential construction in May, nine single-family dwellings and one duplex. This compares to 16 permits issued for new residential construction in May last year, 15 single-family dwellings and one duplex.
