RE:              Sole Source Purchase of Water Meters

Please include the following item on the City Commission Consent Agenda for consideration at the April 28, 2009 meeting.

Project Description:  The Finance/Utility Billing and Utilities/Distribution Divisions replace targeted numbers of aging water meters on an ongoing basis to provide reliable service to the customers and accurate usage data for billing.

Project Status:  City Staff has identified the number and sizes of meters needed for the 2009 Meter Replacement Program. Quotes were requested for Badger meters only due to necessary compatibility with existing fixtures and meter reading equipment. These compatibility requirements, coupled with franchise protected sales areas, resulted in Midwest Meter as the only source for these meters (see attached Sole Source form).

Project Funding: Funding for this project will come from the Utilities Department/Distribution Division Budget 501-7610.

Action Requested:  Authorize the purchase of water meters from Midwest Meter for $166,440.00 for implementation of the 2009 Meter Replacement Program.
