The T can get you where you need to go
This summer, wherever you need to be, take the T! The Lawrence Transit System is a city service providing public transportation from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
With eight routes throughout the city, the T can take you to work, school, doctor’s appointments, shopping, or visiting friends. Regular fare is $1 each way. Reduced fare, for students and seniors, is just 50 cents each way. Monthly passes for unlimited rides are $34 for regular fare and $17 for reduced fare. Passes are available for purchase at City Hall and the Community Mercantile.
Try the T for free on July 15 for the Downtown Lawrence Sidewalk Sale. Look for details about route changes in an upcoming issue of the Flame. For more information, call (785) 864-4644 or visit www.lawrencetransit.org.
City working on budget for 2011
Every August, the City Commission adopts a budget for the next calendar year. City departments have already begun development of their budget requests for 2011. As with previous years, the city is again challenged with declining revenues, however, the city remains committed to providing the high quality services that Lawrence residents expect.
Public input is welcome as part of the city’s ongoing budget process. To view the calendar for adopting the 2011 budget, visit www.lawrenceks.org/budget. More information about the budget, including current and past budgets, a list of expenditures, and the City Manager’s recommended 2011 budget, which will be available July 1, can be found online at www.lawrenceks.org/budget. E-mail comments are accepted online, too.

Get ready for garage sale season
City reminds residents to follow guidelines on placement of signs
In Lawrence, residents are not required to get a permit for holding a garage sale but sales are limited to two per household each calendar year. Garage sale signs are allowed but are required to follow certain signage regulations:
- No private signage can be placed on public areas or right-of-way easements.
- One, temporary directional sign is allowed in private property in residential areas. If the property does not belong to the person holding the garage sale, you must obtain the property owner’s permission to place the sign.
- Signs cannot exceed four square-feet in area and cannot exceed a height of 42-inches.
- Signage shall remain in place from 5 p.m. on Friday to 5 p.m. on Sunday and should be removed when the sale is finished.
- Signs should direct traffic to the property, using arrows, etc.
Questions about garage sale regulations can be directed to the Code Enforcement Division, (785) 832-7700.
