WHAT IS COMPOST?
Compost is organic material that can be added to soil as fertilizer, or as a medium to grow plants. The City of Lawrence compost is made from the weekly collection of residential yard trimmings, which includes grass clippings, leaves, garden prunings, and small woody waste.
In 2007, the City of Lawrence collected and composted 13,437 tons of grass clippings, leaves and brush resulting in a savings of $257,318.55 in avoided landfill disposal cost.
