RE:	Agenda Items 11/17/2015: Traffic Safety Commission, Traffic Control at the intersection of 5^th Street & Ohio Street

Background

At the October 5, 2015 Traffic Safety Commission meeting, the Commission heard a request to establish TRAFFIC CONTROL at the intersection of 5^th Street & Ohio Street. Both streets are classified as “local” streets in a residential area with a speed limit of 30mph, as established by state law; however, Ohio Street is a “dead end” to the north of the intersection. Visibility is restricted due to the built-up nature of the area. There have been two (2) reported crashes at this intersection during the past three (3) years, both during the past three (3) months.

Traffic Safety Commission Action

At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, no one addressed the Commission, either in support of, or in opposition to, the request. The Commission, on a unanimous vote of 8-0, recommended establishing YIELD signs on Ohio Street at 5^th Street.

Action Request

It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission to establish YIELD signs on Ohio Street at 5^th Street.
