RE:	Agenda Items 11/17/2015: Traffic Safety Commission, Traffic Control at the intersection of 18^th Street & Vermont Street

Background

At the October 5, 2015 Traffic Safety Commission meeting, the Commission heard a request to establish TRAFFIC CONTROL at the intersection of 18^th Street & Vermont Street. The intersection of 18^th Street & Vermont Street is a “T” intersection.  In addition there is a School Crosswalk across the west leg of the intersection. There have not been any reported crashes at the intersection during the past three (3) years; however, sight distance for eastbound drivers to see pedestrians approaching from the north is very restricted.

Traffic Safety Commission Action

At the Traffic Safety Commission meeting, one (1) area resident addressed the Commission in support of the request; no one addressed the Commission in opposition to the request. The Commission, on a unanimous vote of 8-0, recommended establishing a STOP sign on 18^th Street at Vermont Street.

Action Request

It is recommended that the City Commission concur with the recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission to a STOP sign on 18^th Street at Vermont Street.
