March 26, 2015 minutes

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:

Mayor Mike Amyx, Linda Jalenak, Vice Mayor Jeremy Farmer (via phone), Brian Iverson, County Commissioner Mike Gaughan (via phone)

 

MEMBERS ABSENT:

Brad Burnside  and Shannon Kimball

 

STAFF PRESENT:

PUBLIC PRESENT:

Hugh Carter and Marvin Hunt with the Lawrence Chamber and the Peaslee Technical Training Center


 

Mayor Amyx called the meeting to order at approximately 4:30 pm.  Commissioner Mike Gaughan was joined by phone.  A motion was made by Linda Jalenak seconded by Brian Iverson to approve the February 3, 2015 meeting minutes.  Motion approved unanimously.  

 

Hugh Carter briefed the group on the Peaslee Technical Training Center project and the request for industrial revenue bond financing for the project in order to access a sales tax exemption.  The estimated sales tax savings was a total of $278,400 with the City total being approximately $67,974 of that amount and the County total being $11,532 of that amount. The bulk of the savings was due to State sales tax.  Mr. Carter noted that if it were not for the sales tax exemption, they would be requesting an additional approximately $140,000 in support from the City of Lawrence and Douglas County.

 

Vice Mayor Farmer joined by phone.

 

There was a motion made by Mayor Amyx, seconded by Brian Iverson to recommend that the City Commission provided industrial revenue bond financing for the Dwayne Peaslee Technical Training Center for the purposes of accessing a sales tax exemption on project construction materials and labor remodeling expenses.  The motion was approved 5-0

 

Brian Iverson made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  The motion was seconded by Commissioner Gaughan.  Motion approved 5-0.

 

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 4:40 pm.
