Waste Reduction & Recycling Report
Kathy Richardson emailed the WRR report (see attached).
Update on menu of options for solid waste and recycling services in Lawrence: A Study Session to discuss the menu of options took place last night. The solid waste review team (City staff) presented information to the City Commissioners. Tammy Bennett informed SAB that there was no clear direction or goal established at the Study Session, but that this item would be placed on a future City Commission meeting agenda, tentatively scheduled for February 8th. Most likely the City Commissioners will vote to create a Task Force. Tammy Bennett mentioned an example of a Solid Waste Task Force formed in Overland Park. There was discussion on what is driving the change which will be important to define.
SAB discussed attending the City Commission meeting when the solid waste and recycling item is placed on the agenda and having one SAB member speak on behalf of the board during the public comments section. SAB also discussed reviewing their goals and past memos in preparation.
Action: Kathy Richardson will email past SAB memos regarding solid waste and recycling to the board.
