Sustainability Advisory Board Meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. Meetings are held in the Public Works Conference Room (ground floor) at City Hall located at 6 East 6th Street, Lawrence.

The City of Lawrence Sustainability Advisory Board (SAB) is a 10-member Board appointed by the Mayor to serve a three-year term. The mission of the Sustainability Advisory Board is to promote environmental protection, and advocate for policies which support sustainability (including environmental protection, waste reduction, recycling, energy conservation and natural resource conservation) in the City of Lawrence and to enhance the quality of life by enhancing the City’s efforts in these areas. The SAB shall advise the Lawrence City Commission and city staff in the following ways. The Board should:
- Monitor and review present environmental protection, waste reduction, recycling, energy conservation, and natural resource conversation efforts of the City.
- Assist the Lawrence City Commission and city staff to develop and establish goals and priorities for future environmental protection, waste reduction, recycling, energy conservation, and natural resource conservation efforts.
- Advise the Lawrence City Commission and city staff on practical methods and programs to reach their goals for future environmental protection, waste reduction, recycling, energy conservation, and natural resource conservation efforts.
- Serve as an information resource for the Lawrence City Commission and city staff. Receive reports on environmental protection, waste reduction, recycling, energy conservation, and natural resource conservation from staff of all affected city departments.
- Maintain regular communication with the Lawrence City Commission and city staff regarding advisory board activities and recommendations.

2012 - 2013 Goals of the Sustainability Advisory Board
In May 2012, the Sustainability Advisory Board embarked on a planning effort that involved long-range goal setting. The goals drafted for 2012-2013 fell into two categories: "efforts the SAB should support" and "efforts the SAB should advocate for." 2012-2013 Goals (PDF, 93 KB)
