Earth Day Parade & Celebration a Success!

The 10th Annual Earth Day Celebration was held in South Park on Saturday, April 17th. The celebration in the park featured April Showers to Water Towers: a Water Festival for Douglas County, free ridership on the T, garden and tree identification tours, the Recycle Cycle, live music, food, and over 65 exhibitors. Attendees learned from exhibits about waste reduction, recycling, composting, alternative fuels and vehicles, energy conservation, land preservation, wildlife and habitat preservation, and more. The Parade that preceded the Celebration, and hosted by the KU Environs, included almost 200 participants and gathered quite a crowd.

The Lawrence Earth Day Celebration works every year to educate residents, businesses and surrounding communities regarding the importance of responsible environmental policies, raise awareness of each individual’s impact on the natural environment, and highlight actions each person can take to make Lawrence and Douglas County a more sustainable and eco-friendly place to live.
