New Hampshire
Street Improvements
Project No. 22-CP7-606(C)
Resolution 6681
September 12, 2006 Agenda Item
|
Project Item. This project constructs
improvements on New Hampshire
Street between 6th and 9th. It includes milling, overlay, re-striping and
construction of two pedestrian crossings.
Project Description. New Hampshire Street
between 6th and 8th will be milled, overlaid, and
restriped as a three-lane street with a center turn lane. The project also includes the construction of
a raised crosswalk for pedestrians placed just south of the main entrance to
the Journal-World building, construction of a pedestrian crosswalk (not raised)
approximately half way between 8th and 9th,
reconstruction of the intersection of 7th and New Hampshire with
concrete pavement, and removal and replacement of the curb in front of City
Hall, around the median in front of City Hall, and at several other locations
in the 600 block.
Project Status. Bids
were opened on August 30, 2006 for this project. The low bidder was R.
D. Johnson Excavating Co., in the amount of $267,229.90.
Project Details. The
project was bid to be completed by November 3, 2006. Liquidated damages of $1,000 per day and an
incentive of $1,000 per day were both in the contract. The contractor is required to keep New Hampshire open to
traffic; however, it may be reduced to one lane of traffic in one direction as
an option. The contractor’s specific
plan for traffic control will be discussed in detail at the pre-construction
meeting.
Project Funding. The
pedestrian crossings will be bonded. The
remainder of the project is funded in the City budget.
Action Request. Approve
Resolution
6681 authorizing the issuance of bonds in the amount of $40,000.
Respectfully submitted,

Charles F. Soules, P.E.
