RE:	Agenda Item – Temporary Use of Riverfront Plaza East Parking Lot

Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the September 12, 2006 meeting:

Project Summary. With adoption of the Development Code on July 1, 2006, special events regulated through the Temporary Use Permit process were eliminated. Staff had been working last spring with the director of the Leo Center on a promotional event to raise awareness and funding for the Center. Unfortunately, the request for approval of this event was officially made last week and staff no longer has the ability to approve these events.

As the attached letter indicates, the promotional event is planned for Saturday morning, September 30th in the City-owned parking lot east of the Riverfront Plaza. Holding the event in this location is critical to the Center’s efforts to increase community awareness of the Leo Center’s location and the services the Center provides.

Action Recommended. Staff recommends that the City Commission approve the temporary event in the Riverfront Plaza east parking lot on Saturday, September 30th from 8AM – Noon.
