As you are aware, variance requests by their very nature are unique to the property and the specific situation involved with the request. I have been directed to put together a list of the variances related to parking within the Oread Neighborhood during the past several years. Please be aware that no two variance requests would have the same situation and considering them to be similar could be misleading.
2003
1. B-04-09-03 Asphalt pavement surface, curb and gutters, and minimum two-way drive for Alpha Chi Omega Sorority; 1500 Sigma Nu Place
Application withdrawn.
2. B-08-24-03 Lot size and parking spaces; 1029 Kentucky Street
Approved reduction from 8 to 5 parking spaces, subject to the variance be valid for as long as the property is owned by the University of Kansas Student Housing Association and is used as a boarding house with no more than ten (10) bedrooms; the project will abide by the conditions of the Lawrence Historic Resources Commission; and obtain the required site plan approval from the City Commission.
3. B-11-32-03 Reduction in Parking Spaces at 1334 Ohio
Approved reduction from 9 to 5 parking spaces for a proposed boarding house with a maximum occupancy of 12 persons/12 Bedrooms.

5. B-03-05-04 Front yard parking setback reduction for a residence; 2006 Louisiana
Approved both parking spaces for a single family residential dwelling unit to be located on a driveway subject to; 1). obtain a building permit for the conversion of the garage to living space; 2). Residence remain as a single-family dwelling; 3). Converted living space will be part of the same single-family residence and will not have separate utility meters, separate mailing address, or be rented out as a separate dwelling unit; and 4). The existing graveled portion of the driveway parking will be paved to city driveway standards.
6. B-06-13-04 Number of off-street parking spaces, side yard setback, & distance stairs project into yard; 1416 Tennessee
Approved a reduction from 9 to 5 parking spaces for 10 occupant/10 bedroom boarding house.
7. B-06-14-04 Request for change of use from residential to office & parking spaces at 1045 Kentucky
a. Approved reduction of the number of required off-street parking spaces from 16 to 5, until such time that off-street parking provided at the First Christian Church (1000 Kentucky) is removed or revoked OR until the massage therapy practice ceases to occupy the property;
b. Approved reduction of the required minimum off-street parking setback from the public right-of-way from 15’ to 0’;
c. Approved elimination of the screening requirements for off-street parking areas;
d. Approved elimination of requirement to curb and gutter the off-street parking area to city standards; and
e. Within one (1) year of the date of this approval, the existing rear parking area must be resurfaced and striped to city standards to provide five (5) parking stalls, including at least one (1) parking space meeting ADA standards for handicapped-accessible parking.
8. B-10-26-04 Required parking at 1736 Tennessee (Sec. 20-1709)
Approved 2nd off-street parking space to be located in the driveway, subject to the driveway width widened to allow for a second vehicle to be parked within the front yard outside the public right-of-way.

Approved no concrete curbs around the perimeter of the parking lot and adjacent to the buildings for the existing parking lot. Approved parking lot setbacks.
12. B-06-22-05 Interpretation of duplex parking requirements for1136 Mississippi
The Board of Zoning Appeals determined that per Section 20-1212, Parking Group 1 - requiring a minimum of 2 parking spaces for each dwelling unit, would be applicable for a proposed duplex to be located at 1136 Mississippi Street.

13. B-01-01-06 Sigma Chi Fraternity; 1439 Tennessee; parking lot size, markings & barriers, curb & gutter
a. Approved 70 degree angled parking spaces for configuration of new parking lot.
b. Approved existing condition to remain on lack of concrete curb and gutters around parking lot on hillside.
14. B-02-05-06 804 Crestline Drive; Parking in required front yard
Approved both parking spaces to be located on the driveway, subject to expansion of the driveway from 14 feet to 18 feet.
15. B-03-07-06 1925 Alabama; parking in front setback
Approved allowing both parking spaces to be located in the front setback area.
16. B-03-09-06 1136 Mississippi; Number of off-street parking spaces
Request for no parking spaces withdrawn by applicant.
17. B-03-10-06 915 W. 4th Street; Parking in front setback & side yard building setback
Approved variance to allow both of the required two off-street parking spaces to be located on a driveway within the required front yard, where normally only one of the required two parking spaces can be located in the front yard per Section 20-1209(b).
18. B-04-12-06 1140 Mississippi; number of off-street parking spaces
Approved reduction from 6 to 0 parking spaces for a 7 occupant/7 bedroom boarding house.

19. B-07-09-07 1339 Ohio, Lot 227; Apartment Bldg (Parking Spaces)
Denied reduction of number of parking spaces from 12 to 5 parking spaces.
20. B-09-12-07 1645 Tennessee, Sigma Phi Epsilon, bldg addition – existing parking lot
Approved variance keeping the same number of parking spaces as previously approved by the City Commission via a prior site plan for the same number of occupants.
21. B-09-13-07 1341 Ohio
Approved reduction from 6 to 5 parking spaces for an 8 bedroom/8 occupant boarding house with removal of a parking space from Ohio Street.
22. B-10-15-07 1339 Ohio
a. Denied reduction from 12 to 9 parking spaces for 12 bedroom/12 occupant boarding house. b. Approved tandem parking for 9 parking spaces off the alley.
