Monthly Progress Report 12-29-06

Completed Tasks through Dec. 29, 2006

  • Confirmed location of Alignment C for the SLT from representatives of the Prairie Band of the Potawotomie for their proposed.
  • Confirmed hydraulic modeling of Coal Creek is to meet FEMA Standards.
  • Addressed questions received from Kansas Department Health and Environment’s review of the Siting Study.
  • Supported city in acquisition of property.
  • Addressed staff comments on liquid and solids process options. 
  • Held a workshop with city staff to discuss collection system flows and loads to the Kansas River WWTP and the Wakarusa WRF.
  • Confirmed approximate location of the corridor from the Four Seasons Complex and Southeast area to the new Wakarusa WRF.
  • Updated preliminary cost estimates of the collection system and treatment facilities.
  • Continued to address storm water issues and flood mitigation of the selected site.

Tasks for January 2007

  • Finalize Siting Study based on Comments received from City Commission, city staff, and KDHE. Re-submit Siting Study to owner as required.
  • Continue to support city in acquisition of property.
  • Finalize flows and loads for new facility.  Discuss benefits of adding additional storage at Four Seasons Complex to alleviate wet-weather flows to the Wakarusa facility.
  • Prepare strip maps of possible piping corridor to the Wakarusa WRF.
  • Hold workshops to update liquid, solids, disinfection, and wet-weather treatment.
  • Revised preliminary costs of the collection system and new facility based upon comments received from the city.

  • Important to maintain project timeline.
  • Address comments received from KDHE on siting study and draft NPDES application.

Decisions Needed

  • Continue to evaluate project acceleration plan.
  • Evaluate need to perform water quality monitoring on the Wakarusa River.
