How to Ride

Routes

Getting on the Bus

Each bus is equipped with two destination signs: one above the windshield and one on the curbside of the bus. These signs identify the route number and the destination of the bus (for example: 1 Prairie Pk).

Bus stops for the Lawrence Transit System are identified with this sign. Passengers within the Lawrence fixed route system will be allowed to board or exit a vehicle at any bus stop sign. In instances where there is no sign along a fixed route, the bus will stop to allow passengers to board or exit at the near side of an intersection or major business access, where it is safe to do so.

Place your exact fare into the farebox or present your monthly pass/ticket to the driver. The driver cannot make change. Take a seat and remain seated at all times. The front steps of each bus can be lowered for passengers who have difficulty boarding.

Getting off the Bus

Indicate to your driver when you wish to get off the bus by pulling the bell cord above the windows prior to your destination stop. Remain seated until the bus has stopped. After you exit, stand to the side of the road or on the sidewalk until the bus has pulled away. For your safety, do not cross in front of the bus.

Transfers

If your trip requires the use of more than one route to complete a one-way trip, ask your driver for a free transfer when you pay your fare. A transfer is valid up to two hours on any bus, except the route on which it was issued. See the highlighted columns indicating transfers on the route schedule.

Bikes

All fixed-route buses are equipped with a bike rack on the front of the bus. Each rack can fit two bikes and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. To see instructions for loading and unloading your bike, click here.
