Milestones

2007

• Planning for the future was a theme for 2007, with participation in the T2030 Long Range Transportation Plan for Lawrence-Douglas County, an Intelligent Transportation System architecture for Lawrence-Douglas County, and the state's Long Range Transportation Plan.
• Revised service and fare policies help the transit system better manage the rising demand and cost for service.
• The T provided 388,325 one-way trips, and the T Lift provided 57,497 one-way trips.

2006

• Highlights of 2006 included launching Carpool Connection, helping the University of Kansas start its Park & Ride system, improving passenger amenities by adding trash bins and route map decals in the shelters, and partnering with the University for the Coordinated Public Transportation Development Plan.
• The T provided 421,864 one-way trips, and the T Lift provided 55,176 one-way trips.

2005

• In September 2005, the T received the FTA award for highest ridership increase for a small urban system in Kansas.
• The T provided 387,790 one-way trips, and the T Lift provided 51,341 one-way trips.

2004

• Lawrence Transit System received the FTA Award of Excellence, paratransit vehicles became GPS test site with Kantronics, T exceeded its productivity goal, route enhancements were made, and a new publicity campaign began.
• The T hit its million ride mark in August 2004. The T provided 327,780 one-way trips, and the T Lift provided 49,739 one-way trips.

2003

• Highlights of 2003 were the introduction of T stickers, E-Routes, and improvements to the Web site. Lawrence Transit System's road calls were substantially lower than the national average, according to the National Transit Database.
• The T provided 267,862 one-way trips, and the T Lift provided 45,034 one-way trips.

2002

• Highlights of 2002 were the Triennial Review, the first Communities in Motion Day promotion, and the Community Mercantile becoming an outlet for bus pass and ticket sales. Fare revenues were almost equal to state funding, and federal funding was greater than local funding.
• The T provided 234,743 one-way trips, and the T Lift provided 45,485 one-way trips.

2001

• The first year of service provided 155,737 one-way trips on the T fixed route service and 44,408 one-way trips on the T Lift ADA complementary paratransit service.

2000

• The Public Transit Advisory Committee (PTAC) was established April 11, 2000.
• Lawrence Transit System began service December 16, 2000 on a very icy and snowy day.
