Take Charge Challenge

Thank you

Thank you Lawrence for your support of the Take Charge Challenge!  The results were released on October 25 and Lawrence did not win the Challenge but we were top overall community in energy savings.  Your efforts will be felt (in your energy efficiency savings) for years to come and we thank you for your support and hard work!

Through the Take Charge Challenge, Lawrence residents:

  • Completed 463 of energy audits
  • Installed 2,391 WattSaver thermostats
  • Switched 41,711 incandescent bulbs to CFLs
  • Held 166 community events that reached 25,500 residents
  • Saved 32,458 MMBTU of energy

The impact of these energy savings could save the same emissions as:

  • Taking 1,287 cars off the road
  • Powering 569 homes for a year
  • Saving 15,266 barrels of oil

The Take Charge Challenge is a friendly completion to save energy, save money, and take charge of our energy future. This is the second year for the Challenge; sixteen communities across Kansas participated in the Challenge. Statewide, the communities’ energy savings equaled 110.2 billion BTUs of gas and electricity saved with a value of $2,341,025.

The winning communities were: Colby, Manhattan, Ft. Scott and Baldwin City.
