Sustainability is a city priority, but creating a healthy environment, economy, and society is going to take the efforts of all of us. The city provides multiple programs and opportunities for you to save energy, save water, cut utility bills, recycle, enjoy the outdoors, and more!
How to participate:
- Reduce the waste you generate in the first place:
- Reuse what you can, and then donate or sell it to keep it out of the landfill.
- Recycle! At home and at work.
- Ride the Lawrence Transit System to get to campus and around town.
- Weatherize your home to save energy and money.
- Come to the Annual Lawrence Energy Conservation Fair.
- Compost your yard and kitchen waste.
- Ride your bike (PDF) to work, to school, or just for fun.
- Volunteer to keep Lawrence parks pesticide free.
- Conserve water, save money.
- Prevent stormwater pollution.
- Explore our ecosystem at Prairie Park Nature Center.
- Come celebrate with us at the Earth Day Parade and Celebration
- Plant a rain garden.
- Build your own rain barrel.
- Carpool to save money, and the environment.
