Solid Waste Division
Introduction
The Solid Waste Division is comprised of three functional divisions: Residential Collection; Commercial Collection (which includes Maintenance Operations); and Waste Reduction and Recycling.
In 2010, the Solid Waste Division collected 63,605 tons of solid waste for disposal, compared to 67,064 tons in 2009. An estimated 15,600 tons of material were collected by the Division to be recycled or composted. In 2008, Lawrence achieved a 35% recycling rate, which is likely the highest in the state and is higher than the national average for that year.
