AAB minutes: February 2000
Aviation Advisory Board
Minutes from Thurs., Feb. 17, 2000 Board Meeting
Board Members Present:
Rick Bryant, Chair Bob Newton
Dave Henry Jerry Sherman
Les Catlin Steve Craig
January Minutes were approved as presented through Bryant motion, Catlin second.
Airport Update:
Rod Bremby told the board:
- that several engineering bids had been received for the airport water/sewer project. His impression was the competition would lower the front-end costs for the project. He was still awaiting word on the Department of Commerce grant for funding assistance on this project. John Zinder, Dept. of Commerce, happened through town earlier in week and got tour of airport facilities for better familiarization of project needs.
- US Congressman Dennis Moore had copied the city on correspondence detailing his legislation that would earmark the airport's CIP budget of $4.7million into FY2001 federal budget, not the FAA's budget allocation. That could potentially speed up projects at the airport.
- That John Malle, Emporia, had provided some preliminary pricing on T-Hangar construction, and options for electric doors and heated stalls as requested by the Board for consideration. Bremby planned to develop a pro-forma for presentation to the City Commission in March for consideration and forward movement on construction.
- That a presentation by the Board to the City Commission during the budgeting process this spring should be prepared so city money can be allocated and budgeted for CIPs at the airport as part of the city's five-year plan. He would get figures together and help create a presentation with board members.
- Ron Renz provided some insight into KDOT's master highway plan and the Topeka, Lawrence, Leavenworth corridor for US 24-40 and its affect on the airport property. According to the meeting he attended, the consensus appeared to favor improving the existing alignment through the three cities as opposed to a northern route directly between Topeka and Leavenworth, by-passing Lawrence.
Del Richardson Memoriam
With a Catlin motion, and Henry second, the Board approved to recommend and request that the City Commission honor long-time Lawrence aviator, Delbert Richardson, by renaming the pilot's lounge in the main terminal as:
The
Delbert Richardson
Pilot's Lounge
Summer Chamber Mixer
Board was interested in proceeding with mixer but a working Chamber budget hadn't been received by meeting time. The Chamber has reserved the month of July for the airport if the board wants to pursue a mixer.
