Lawrence SmartCode
The following documents are items related to the Lawrence SmartCode. The City Commission approved the Lawrence SmartCode on January 20, 2009. The Lawrence SmartCode will take affect on July 1, 2009. The Lawrence SmartCode Infill Plan and Horizon 2020 Chapter 15 – Place Making are items related to the Lawrence SmartCode.The City Commission initiated changes to the Architectural Standards of the code. Staff worked with a group of local architects to revise the architectural standards over the last few months. The main revision is changing the standards to guidelines in order to make them more flexible in their application. These revisions are scheduled to be reviewed by the Planning Commission in June, 2009.

PlaceMakers, a planning and development advisory firm, was retained by the City of Lawrence to develop a form-based Traditional Neighborhood Design (TND) development ordinance known as the SmartCode.
