Public Participation Plan - Update
Public Comment Period: January 27 – March 12
The Lawrence - Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is now making changes to its Public Participation Plan (PPP) and is providing the draft 2012 PPP for your review and comments. This PPP will serve as a guide to improve the process for involving you in regional transportation planning and decision making. Because transportation has a substantial impact on an area, effective transportation planning must include the participation of those whose everyday lives are affected by how they are able to get to work, home, school, stores, and services. This PPP outlines the preferred public input procedures, processes and techniques for use in the regional transportation planning process.
This review and update to the PPP is being undertaken now because later this year the MPO will be creating a new Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) to replace the current one called Transportation 2030. That MTP update process will include public involvement activities, and the MPO has decided to make changes to its PPP ahead of the MTP update. The draft 2012 PPP document is being put out for public review and comment now because by federal regulation changes to the PPP require a 45-day public comment period which is longer than the 15-day or 30-day period required for other MPO documents.
