Draft Environmental Chapter to Horizon 2020
Chapter 16 – Environment (CPA-2008-07)
The Comprehensive Plans Committee (CPC), in conjunction with Planning Staff has been working through a process to draft a new chapter in Horizon 2020 concerning environmental issues. Stakeholders and the public will be asked to participate in the process throughout the development of the chapter. A project timeline, as well as meeting notes and draft language can be found below.
A new draft of the Environmental Chapter has been released. Comments on the August 2010 Draft are due to staff by 10am on August 23, 2010 for inclusion in the August Planning Commission Packet. The Planning Commission conduct a public hearing on the proposed chapter at their August 23, 2010 meeting.
The August 2010 Draft can be viewed by clicking the link below. The file is rather large so you may find it easier to download it by "Right clicking" on the link for the plan and selecting "Save Target As" to save the file to a location on your hard drive. You can then access the file from your hard drive after it has downloaded. Questions and comments are encouraged and welcome at any point during the process. Please direct questions and comments to Amy Miller at 832-3166 or at amiller@ci.lawrence.ks.us.

The CPC has adopted the following mission statement as they work through the development of the environmental chapter:
Identify environmental resources present in Douglas County, and draft goals, policies and strategies to support protection, conservation, and management of these resources in the context of development activity, planning, and government operations, to achieve a livable, vibrant, and healthy community.
