Mayor's Excellence Award
Spring 2008
What is it?
Lawrence students, parents and teachers are encouraged to nominate an educator and students for the newly expanded Mayor's Excellence in Education Awards. The annual award will continue to recognize Lawrence educators who demonstrate excellence in education, leadership and community involvement, and has expanded recognize two high school seniors for accomplishments in technology and in leadership.
For Educators
Educators serving pre-schools, elementary schools, junior high schools and high schools in the Lawrence community may be nominated.
For Students
The two student awards, student leadership and student achievement in technology are self nominating. The student awards are open to graduating seniors in the Lawrence community.
Student leadership award: nominations need to describe leadership positions held throughout the high school career and examples of success in the leadership role as well as involvement in the community.
Achievement in technology award: nominations should include a story telling how a student used technology to accomplish something he or she feels is important and explain why the accomplished is important. Nominations will be judged in the impact of accomplishment, difficulty of project and innovation and creativity.

About the Awards
- Nomination deadline: Midnight, Monday, March 10, 2008
- Awards will be presented in late March and educators will receive a commemorative tower and be recognized at school board and city commission meetings.
- Students will be presented with a laptop computer donated by Microtech Computers and also recognized at school board and city commission meetings.
