In May 1961, Jerome [Jerry] Niebaum graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in education. The following month, on June 11, he married Judith [Judy] Roxann Johnson in southern Kansas. They moved to Lawrence in August 1961 for Judy to complete her degree in education at KU. The following year, they left Lawrence, but returned to make Lawrence home again in 1981. Judy retired as an elementary school teacher for the Eudora School District #491 in 1999. Jerry retired from KU as assistant vice provost for Information Services in 2004. In 2004, he was chair of the board of the Douglas County Historical Society. He served as vice president of the Lawrence Sesquicentennial Commission.
