Since 1946, the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department has been providing
recreational
and quality of life programming for the Lawrence community.
LPRD is aware of the great pressures and risks children face today. That’s why
it is imperative that there are outlets for children to participate in activities
that
are fun and educational.
To ensure that all programs are available to all children in the community,
the Wee Folk Scholarship was established in 1996.
LPRD annually awards more than $20,000 in scholarships to children to participate
in its programs. In fact since LPRD began awarding scholarships, nearly $200,000 has been provided for children, assisting in their skill development through
fun, educational programs and activities.
By participating in the Bill Self/LPRD Youth Scholarship Golf Classic, you assist the
department in its commitment to the citizens of Lawrence and would help
ensure that the
department would be able to live its motto of “Never turning a child away
for the inability
to pay.”
