WATER SAFETY FAIR
Saturday, May 12; 1-3 p.m. Drowning is preventable! Every summer, children and adults are involved in needless accidents while swimming or enjoying the outdoors. May is National Water Safety Month. We're inviting you to join us at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center for our safety fair to learn how to enjoy aquatic activities safely at home or away. Various agencies will be present to provide resources and information that promote water safety including life jacket fittings, lake swimming and hypothermia. You can even explore the Boston Whaler water patrol boat! Join our lifeguards at safety stations on the pool deck to learn about sun safety, buddy swimming, pool rules and reach or throw techniques. We will also be offering free swim evaluations to assess skills for placement into our popular swim lessons.

The event is FREE and open to the public. Visit every booth and receive a "Safe Swimmer" wristband. Stay and swim afterwards! Admission applies for swimming.

MOTHER'S DAY SWIM
Sunday, May 13. Treat Mom to a day of fun she deserves! On Mother's Day, all moms get in FREE to LIAC when accompanied by a child.

From the Stand

ATTENTION AQUAPHOBES!
Summer is upon us and most of us will be near water…whether we like it or not. It is all around us during the season of fun in the sun. Sufferers of this fear of water often experience anxiety even though they realize the water in an ocean, a river, a lake, a creek or even a bathtub may pose no imminent threat. They generally avoid such activities as boating and swimming. But if you are going to be begged to take the grandkids to the pool or offered to go out for a ride on a friend's new boat, get over your fear…swim lessons are here.

Did you always wish you had learned to swim as a child and now you realize you are terrified to even dip your toe in the water? Well, it is never too late to get started. We offer Learn-to-Swim classes year-round for all ages and follow the American Red Cross standards for our curriculum. This simple chart below details each level and how participants are assessed to be able to move on to the next option. So whether you'd like to start your kids off with the basics, develop a specific stroke or if you simply want to feel confident yourself when you splash in the water, join us this summer for one of our many classes starting June 4 at either Aquatic Center.
