Meeting was called to order by Vice Chair Johnston. Minutes of the June 10th meeting were approved on a motion by Penny, 2nd by Spratt.
DeVictor reported the supplemental agreement for an additional lease of 97 acres at Clinton Lake has been finalized by the Corp of Engineers. The City Commission has approved fundraising toward the Sesquicentennial Plaza as a Sesquicentennial Commission gift to the Lawrence community.
Staff reviewed the 2004 budget requests and discussed projected budget reductions. 2003 revenue was over $38,000 ahead of last year and on target to meet annual projections.
Spratt and Hecker discussed the sculpture garden idea and mentioned the Arts Commission has proposed a location for the first one near 6th and Massachusetts Street.
Shaw reported twilight reduced rates after 6P.M. for the pool went into effect June 30th.
Jo Ellis reported USD 497 would be dropping their Adult Education program and we will pick up many of those courses this fall utilizing school sites.
Hecker reported some playground equipment from East Heights elementary School would be moved to Hobbs Parks, a bridge in Brook Creek Park has been completed and a CDBG funded renovation plan for Clinton Park at 5th and Illinois Street will begin soon.
Steinbrock reported the fall brochure would come out August 3rd with on-line registration being marketed. Eagle Bend Golf Course will begin reduced rates of $25.00 for 18-holes and a cart for 2-5P.M.
The Board heard a report from Marty Birrell about programs and additions at the Prairie Park Nature Center and toured the center to see the new Bald Eagle and Golden Eagle.
