LAWRENCE PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
March 8, 2003
Board Members present: Chair, Tom Bracciano, Vice Chair, Alice Ann Johnston and LHS student member Elspeth Legler. Guest: Bonnie Mills, Mellissa Sumonia, Erica Dew. Staff Present: Fred DeVictor, Ernie Shaw, Mark Hecker Roger Steinbrock and Lee Ice.
Meeting called to order, Chair Bracciano. No quorum was present for action at the meeting.
Staff report forming a committee to discuss a sculpture garden idea as presented by the Lawrence Arts Commission; a City Commission public hearing would be held March 25th for a benefit district for the purchase of the Orchard's Golf Course and work was progressing on cost estimates for the Clinton Lake Master Plan.
Mills, Sumonia and Lee reported on formation of a new girls fast pitch developmental league. Lee also introduced an "Enjoy the Game" program, which Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department adopting to encourage sportsmanship in youth sports and activities.
DeVictor showed the Board a 2004-2009 capital improvement plan being submitted to the Planning Department.
Hecker presented a park report; Shaw a report on recreation activities including the summer brochure coming out April 6th and Steinbrock discussed a 2002 year-end report.
Board member were invited to the official opening on March 13th at 4:00 P.M. of the Eagle cages at the Prairie Park Nature Center and unveiling of a Bald and Golden Eagle.
Next meeting April 8th, 2003.
