1)   Centennial Park’s Skatepark to close for repairs

 

(Lawrence, Ks.) – Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department announces the temporary closing of Centennial Park’s Skatepark, located at 600 Rockledge Rd. beginning Monday, March 22.

The closure is to repair cracks that developed throughout the park.  The Skatepark will reopen once repairs are completed, which is dependent upon the weather.

The Skatepark was developed in 1998 and was one of the first Skateparks built in Kansas.

2)   Pitch, hit, run competition to test baseball skills

 

(Lawrence, Ks.) - Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will host the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run competition 10 a.m. Saturday, April 17, at Clinton Lake Softball Complex, 5101 Speicher Rd. .

Boys and girls ages seven to 14 years old are eligible to participate in the competition. There is no cost to participate.  Winners in each category and age group will advance to the sectional level of competition, which will be held  in the early summer. 

Pitch, Hit and Run is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball and is designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to participate in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball skills.

All participants must register prior to the start of the competition. Registration can be done online at www.lprd.org, or by visiting any Parks and Recreation facility including:  the Community Building, 115 West 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East 15th St.; Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 West 27th St.; Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Dr.; Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St.; the Administrative Offices, 947 New Hampshire St. or South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St.
