1) City offices to close on Feb. 15 for President’s Day
(Lawrence, Ks.) – City offices will be closed on Monday, Feb. 15 in observance of the President’s Day holiday.
Residential solid waste collection will not be affected by the holiday closure. Commercial solid waste collection routes scheduled for Monday will be collected on schedule.
Parking meters in downtown Lawrence will be free on Monday, Feb. 15.
To report a waterline break on a holiday or weekend, call (785) 843-2685.
The Lawrence Transit System T and T Lift buses will operate regular schedules on Monday, Feb. 15.
Parks and recreation announces the following hours of operation for the President’s Day holiday:
Recreation facilities hours for Monday, Feb. 15:
Community Building, 115 W. 11th St., 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
East Lawrence Center, 1245 E. 15th St., 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St., 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St., Closed, with exception of scheduled classes.
Eagle Bend Golf Course, accepting tee times (Weather Permitting)
Carl Knox Natatorium, Lawrence High School Campus, 6:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, lap swimming 5:15 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.
Zero Depth and Children's Areas 3:30 to 7:45 .p.m.
Waterslide and Diving Area 6 to 7:30 p.m.
All aquatic, special populations and recreation classes will be held as scheduled. Adult Sports leagues will be held as scheduled.
Prairie Park Nature Center is closed every Monday.

2) Volleyball clinic registration being accepted
(Lawrence, Ks.) – Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is accepting enrollment for the 2010 Volleyball Clinic.
The clinic, for girls in fourth through eighth grades, will teach participants the fundamentals, skills and rules needed to better prepare girls for school team competition. Instructors will consist of former volleyball players and/or current coaches at the junior high or high school level.
The clinic will be held every Saturday morning in April. All sessions will take place at Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St. The cost to participate is $50, which includes a camp T-shirt.

3) Girls fast pitch registration underway
(Lawrence, Ks.) - Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Youth Sports Division is now accepting registrations for the Lawrence Girls Fast Pitch Association developmental softball league.
The goal of the LGFPA is to provide a highly competitive league where girls can further develop their softball skills. Only team entries will be accepted. The cost to participate is $900 per team. Registration fee and a completed roster are due Friday, April 30.
Teams and leagues will be formed by current grade level as of Jan. 1, 2010. Players may register for a league up, but may not play down. Games will start mid May and go through mid July.

4) City infrastructure improvement projects for the week of February 15
(Lawrence, Ks) - Infrastructure improvement projects for the week February 15.
Project: Water line replacement
Traffic Impact:
Clare Road, East 19th Street to Maple Lane, no parking and road will be closed to thru traffic from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Miller Drive, East 21st to Maple Lane, no parking and road will be closed to thru traffic from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Project: North Second Street and Locust intersection
Traffic Impact:
North Second Street, southbound traffic at Locust reduced to one lane
North Second Street, northbound traffic detoured to Elm Street, to North Third Street and to Lyon Street
Locust, closed at North Second Street
BUS REROUTES
Route 4 to reroute during North Second Street project
Route 4 is rerouted in North Lawrence during construction at N 2nd and Locust Streets. Passengers wishing to catch the northbound bus on Locust will need to do so between North Third and North Seventh. After departing I-70 Business Center, the southbound bus will continue south on North Second Street across the bridge and back on route. Passengers wishing to catch the bus in the neighborhoods will need to do so on the northbound trip.
