1)   Blastball registration being accepted

(Lawrence, Ks.) –Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Youth Sports Division is now accepting registrations for Blastball.

Blastball is for children 4 to 5 years old and teaches the fundamentals of baseball and softball, including hitting, running, throwing and fielding.  A parent is required to participate with their child during each 15 minute skill-teaching portion prior to each game.

Registration deadline is Wednesday, May 19, and the cost to participate in the four-week program is $40. 

Registration forms are available at all Parks and Recreation facilities including: the Community Building, 115 West 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East 15th St.; Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 West 27th St.; Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Dr.; Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St.; the Administrative Offices, 947 New Hampshire St. or South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Massachusetts St. Forms may also be found online at http://www.lawrenceks.org/lprd/_youthsports/baseball/2010BlastBall.pdf.

2)   Baseball, softball registration underway

(Lawrence, Ks.) - Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Youth Sports Division is now accepting registrations for its recreational baseball and softball programs.

The programs are designed for pre-school through sixth grade boys and girls who want to participate in an organized, competitive, yet recreational setting during the summer.  Children will learn basic skills and fundamentals of the sport, as well as fair play, teamwork and sportsmanship.

Registration deadline is Thursday, April 8, and the cost to participate is $40-$55, depending on the child’s grade level.  A $15 late fee will be applied after the April 8 deadline.

Teams and leagues will be formed by current grade level as of May 1.  A one-hour practice time will be determined by each team’s coach and may begin the week of May 11.  All games will be held in the evenings, Monday through Saturday.
