Snow Update: Clearing underway in residential areas; LPRD announces cancellations
(Lawrence, Ks.) – The City of Lawrence’s street maintenance division spent the bulk of today clearing snow from residential areas. Additionally, crews continue to battle high, sustained winds that affect once-cleared priority routes.
The city’s 24-hour snow operations will continue through this evening as additional clearing occurs in the residential areas. A contracted crew will also be working round-the-clock to clear snow from roadways.
All priority-level roads have been plowed and treated but may still remain snow packed due to the frigid temperatures which do not allow chemicals to work as effectively for melting snow and ice.
The city’s snow operations phone line, (785) 832-3031, will be manned until midnight tonight for residents to call with questions.
The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department evening programs for Thursday, Jan. 7 will be held as scheduled except for Hoopsters, the youth sports basketball program, will not have practices held this evening. All recreation facilities will close on their regular schedules.
Morning recreation instruction fitness programs for tomorrow have been canceled, however morning aquatic programs will be held as scheduled.
All Parks and Recreation facilities will open as scheduled tomorrow and recreation instruction programs scheduled after noon will be held.
