Snow Update: Thursday's focus is residential streets

(Lawrence, Ks.) - City of Lawrence street maintenance crews worked throughout the night clearing priority level one and two streets (collectors and arterials).  As of 6:30 a.m. this morning, all collectors and arterials have been plowed at least once and treated with a salt and sand mixture.  A map of the city’s priority routes is available online at http://www.lawrenceks.org/publicworks/pdf/SnowPlow_web.pdf. Although the areas have been plowed, many roads remain snowpacked.  Exercise extreme caution when driving today and remember to slow down.

During the pre-dawn hours this morning, additional contracted crews mobilized, along with the city's forces, and have moved into the residential areas.  These crews will work to clear roadways in residential areas throughout today. Remember to remove vehicles off of the street if at all possible.

This latest snowstorm brought an estimated four-inches of snow to the Lawrence area.  Today's forecast calls for windy conditions, which may complicate clearing operations.  However, the focus will remain on clearing residential roads today.  Motorists should expect to encounter drifts since winds are constantly changing road conditions.

The street division's main phone line will be manned throughout today, call (785) 832-3031 for information on snow operations. Crews are still working in 24-hour operations mode.

As always, we thank you for your patience and cooperation during winter weather.
