Closing of Iowa Street bridge means an extended reroute for Route 3
(LAWRENCE, KS) – Closure of the Iowa Street bridge over the Kansas Turnpike will affect Route 3 of the Lawrence Transit System, which serves downtown, Lawrence Memorial Hospital, the Pinckney neighborhood, and the North Iowa industrial park.
Reconstruction of the bridge is scheduled to take approximately six to eight months and could start as early as Monday, Dec. 10. As soon as the project is underway, Route 3 will move to an alternate route. The route will maintain service to all areas it serves, including the North Iowa industrial park. Riders wishing to catch the bus at the industrial park will still be able to get on at the regular stops in that area.
The reroute will use Kasold Drive to access Lakeview Road and North Iowa north of the interstate. Passengers should note that Peterson Road will only be served on the outbound leg of the trip, when the bus is traveling northbound toward Lakeview Road. The route schedule should not be affected by the reroute.
The “T” operates from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. To help plan your trip or learn more about the routes, call (785) 312-7054 or log on to www.lawrencetransit.org.
