1) Lawrence Aquahawk IMX Challenge

LAWRENCE – The Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center will host the Lawrence Aquahawks IMX Swim Meet Saturday, June 13. This meet features local youth competing in a variety of individual events. For those wishing to watch the competition it is free and open to the public.
 
With the competition, the competition pool will be closed Saturday, June 13. Lap swimming will be available from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Outdoor Aquatic Center, located at 727 Kentucky St. Open swim will also be available from 1-8:45 p.m. at the Outdoor Aquatic Center.

2) Brown Bag and City Band summer concerts continue this week

LAWRENCE- Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s two summer concert series will continue this week with performances from the Lawrence City Band and the Lonesome Hobos.
 
The Lawrence City Band Summer Concert Series will continue this week at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, at the William Kelly Bandstand located in historic South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St. This week the band will hold its annual Children’s Concert.  In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to Murphy Hall, Room 103, on the University of Kansas Campus.
 
The Brown Bag Concert Series also continues this week as the Lonesome Hobos perform at 12 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, in front of U.S. Bank, 900 Massachusetts St. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held at Watkins Community Museum, 1047 Massachusetts St.
 
Both of these concerts are free and open to the public.

3) Downtown outdoor summer movies to kickoff Thursday

LAWRENCE – Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Special Events Division and Downtown Lawrence, Inc. will once again hosts the Downtown Lawrence Film Festival this summer.  Kicking off this summer’s movie festival under the stars Thursday, June 11, will be “Women of the Year” at the grassy area at 9th and New Hampshire Streets (by the parking garage).  
 
Festivities begin with live music at 8 p.m. Free popcorn will be given away and prize drawings will be conducted prior to the film, which begins at 9:15 p.m.
 
Throughout the summer, black and white, family movies will be shown. The following is a list or remaining shows:  June 25 – “Without Love;” July 9 – “State of the Union;” July 23 – “Adam’s Rib;” August 13 – “Pat and Mike” and August 27 – “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?”
 
Participants are asked to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets.
