Geographic Information Systems
GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is a computer system of hardware and software that combines computer graphics with databases. The City uses GIS in eleven departments: Administrative Services, City Manager, Finance, Fire and Medical, Information Systems, Legal Services, Planning and Development Services, Police, Public Works, and Utilities. Five City employees specialize in GIS: a coordinator, three analysts and a planner.
Completed layers include street centerline, street names, city parks, neighborhood boundaries, zip codes, major water features, city limit, flood plain, two foot contours, school locations and aerial photography.
Printed city maps are available from the Public Works department in City Hall, (785) 832-3123.
