Geographic Information Systems

GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is a computer system of hardware and software that combines computer graphics with databases. The City uses GIS in ten departments: Administrative Services, City Manager, Fire and Medical, Neighborhood Resources, Information Systems, Legal Services, Planning, Police, Public Works, and Utilities. Five City employees specialize in GIS: a coordinator, three analysts and a planner.

Completed layers include street centerline, street names, city parks, neighborhood boundaries, zip codes, major water features, city limit, flood plain, two foot contours, school locations and aerial photography.
