Opportunities to Serve on the Food Policy Council!

Do you want to be more involved in decision making in Lawrence and Douglas County? Do you care about food, health, land, and jobs in your community?

Consider lending your perspectives to the Douglas County Food Policy Council! The Food Policy Council is an advisory board that works with City of Lawrence and Douglas County staff and Commissioners to make recommendations that help strengthen a successful, resilient, and equitable local food system.

Current and upcoming opportunities for the Food Policy Council include:

  • Food recovery for increased food security and reduced food waste
  • Examining internal Council functions for equity and inclusion
  • Agricultural economic development and aspiring farmer training
  • Climate impacts and action opportunities in our food system
  • Incorporating agrivoltaics into large-scale solar
  • Compiling progress on the Douglas County Food System Plan and sharing impacts with the community

The DCFPC is currently seeking to fill THREE County vacancies:

  • an agricultural producer, preferably, but not limited to, someone from Baldwin, Eudora, Lecompton or unincorporated Douglas County.
  • a representative from a land/water conservation or sustainable agriculture organization.
  • an undesignated role for someone to lend lived or professional experience, or personal interest, particularly as relates to cultural diversity, healthy food, food security, equity, entrepreneurship, and/or the food economy.
